Garba is performed during Navratri, a festival dedicated to the goddess and her various forms, including Durga, the warrior goddess who rides a lion.

The lion represents courage, strength, and determination, qualites that Durga embodies in her battle against evil forces. As participants in Garba dance in circles, they mirror the cosmic cycle of creation, preservation, and destruction, celebrating the goddess's divine energy (Shakti). The lion is an extension of this energy, symbolizing her fearless protection and support of her devotees.

Garba dancers often move with vibrant energy and grace, which can be likened to the lion’s majestic and powerful movements, emphasizing courage and vitality. The rhythmic clapping and swirling motions pay homage to the goddess's divine power, echoing her triumphs over darkness, with the lion serving as a reminder of her unwavering strength.
